Hands in a Manga

Hands are important. They often work like facial expression. But, drawing hands is difficult. A hand consists of many small parts and, there are many types of forms(opened, holding something, V sign and so on).

In addition to that, hands should be caricatured to fit in a manga style picture. I found many books on drawing hands in reality but, it was difficult to find a clue for manga style hand.

So, I experimented to find a good way. The based picture is in a balance of reality and, the other one is what I caricatured.

The points I found are:

· Tighten up and extend a finger

· Emphasize corners

· Try not to draw nails

I caricatured refer to pictures of Tokyo 7th Sisters. The hands were nicely caricatured.
